     September 22-2 Learning Outcomes Literacy  Create texts that express personal feelings and ideas based on prior experiences and knowledge. What Did  Students Do? This week, our class worked on a meaningful writing activity inspired by Terry Fox. They each wrote a heartfelt letter to Terry, sharing how his story of courage, perseverance, and hope continues to inspire them today. In their writing, students reflected on the importance of never giving up and how Terry’s Marathon of Hope motivates them to set goals and face challenges with determination. Alongside their letters, students also expressed their creativity by decorating paper shoes to represent “running with Terry.” Each shoe was designed with personal touches, including words, colors, and symbols that reflect what Terry’s journey means to them.     September 15-19 Learning Outcomes Wellness Describe situations where responsible leadership supports the safety and well-being of self and other.  Identity rules, practice and protocols that support safety and well-being in a variety of contexts.  What Did  Students Do? On Thursday, September 18, our Grade 5 students participated in AMA Patrol training. This training was an important opportunity for students to learn about the role of the AMA School Safety Patrol team and what it means to be a leader in our school community. During the session, students explored the responsibilities of being a patrol member, including keeping others safe, modeling positive behavior, and communicating clearly with others. They also learned about the key qualities needed to be an effective patrol, such as responsibility, teamwork, respect, and confidence.      September 8-12 Learning Outcomes Literacy Apply creative-thinking processes to enhance personal expression and artistry. Create written texts for a variety of audiences and purposes. What Did  Students Do? This week, students wrote a piece to accompany their hand art connected to the topic of community. They considered these questions: What does community mean to me? What communities am I a part of? How do I feel when I am in these communities? What do I bring to these communities? They brainstormed their ideas in a graphic organizer prior to writing. Then, students wrote their jot notes into sentences. The students' writing reflects the importance of community and the positive impact this has on them as well as their impact on the people in these groupings. Your child will share this writing and art with you during Meet the Teacher night, next Thursday, September 18th from 3:30-6:00pm. We look forward to seeing you!     September 2-5 Learning Outcomes Wellness Students reflect and relate life experiences to perseverance and well-being. Students acknowledge and connect perspectives of self and others through communication and listening skills. What Did  Students Do? Welcome back students and families! We have had a great start to the school year. We have welcomed a new family to our Grade 5 class this year. Warmest welcome to the new families here at Andrew Sibbald School. This week, we delved into our anchor text for the year "I am We". We read the book and used it as a starting point for many learning activities and discussions. Students discussed the concept of community and we used this to begin talking about our classroom and lunchroom expectations and norms.  Students also shared about the various communities they are part of and discussed how they feel when in these groupings.
