What Did Students Do?

Welcome back students and families! We have had a great start to the school year. We have welcomed a new family to our Grade 5 class this year. Warmest welcome to the new families here at Andrew Sibbald School.

This week, we delved into our anchor text for the year "I am We". We read the book and used it as a starting point for many learning activities and discussions. Students discussed the concept of community and we used this to begin talking about our classroom and lunchroom expectations and norms.

Students also shared about the various communities they are part of and discussed how they feel when in these groupings. This discussion also inspired the hand dot artwork that students have begun. Each row of dots represents a community that the student belongs to or a feeling that they have when in that community. Students will write an accompanying piece to go along with their artwork.

Ask your child to tell you more about our anchor text and their first week of Grade 5.
