What Did Students Do?

This week, our class spent time learning about the importance of Remembrance Day and what it means to remember those who have served and continue to serve our country.

We discussed why we wear poppies and explored the powerful symbolism behind this small but meaningful flower. Students listened to stories about Remembrance Day, then shared thoughtful reflections and personal understandings about what remembrance means to them.

To express their learning creatively, students designed beautiful poppy art pieces and wrote about the poppy and remembrance in their own words. Their artwork and writing showed empathy, gratitude, and a deep sense of respect for the sacrifices made by others.

It was a meaningful series of tasks to learn, reflect, and create as we prepared to honour Remembrance Day together on Friday at school

- to tell you about Opinion Writing and the various tasks/learning activities we have been engaged in this week
- to explain decimal place value. Can they read this number 1 255.431? Can they explain the value of each digit?

     September 8-12 Learning Outcomes Literacy Apply creative-thinking processes to enhance personal expression and artistry. Create written texts for a variety of audiences and purposes. What Did  Students Do? This week, students wrote a piece to accompany their hand art connected to the topic of community. They considered these questions: What does community mean to me? What communities am I a part of? How do I feel when I am in these communities? What do I bring to these communities? They brainstormed their ideas in a graphic organizer prior to writing. Then, students wrote their jot notes into sentences. The students' writing reflects the importance of community and the positive impact this has on them as well as their impact on the people in these groupings. Your child will share this writing and art with you during Meet the Teacher night, next Thursday, September 18th from 3:30-6:00pm. We look forward to seeing you!     September 15-19 Learning Outcomes Wellness Describe situations where responsible leadership supports the safety and well-being of self and other.  Identity rules, practice and protocols that support safety and well-being in a variety of contexts.  What Did  Students Do? On Thursday, September 18, our Grade 5 students participated in AMA Patrol training. This training was an important opportunity for students to learn about the role of the AMA School Safety Patrol team and what it means to be a leader in our school community. During the session, students explored the responsibilities of being a patrol member, including keeping others safe, modeling positive behavior, and communicating clearly with others. They also learned about the key qualities needed to be an effective patrol, such as responsibility, teamwork, respect, and confidence.
