Feb 9-11 Learning Outcomes Transitions of colour, texture or tone relate the parts of a composition to a unified whole. What Did  Students Do?   This Week in Grade 5 Science: Exploring Space This week, students continued their learning in  space science , exploring several fascinating features of our solar system. We learned about  moons  and their roles, investigated the patterns of  moon phases , and discussed the characteristics that define  dwarf planets . Students also expanded their understanding of key regions in space, including the  asteroid belt  and the  Kuiper belt , examining how these areas help scientists better understand the structure and history of our solar system. To creatively connect with our learning, students began creating  chalk artwork  inspired by space. This project is currently a  work in progress , and students are applying new artistic techniques as they develop their pieces. Along th...

Feb 9-11 Learning Outcomes Explain the standard algorithms for multiplication of natural numbers. Multiply up to  3-digit  by  2-digit  natural numbers, using standard algorithms. What Did  Students Do? This Week in Grade 5 Math: Learning the Traditional Multiplication Algorithm This week, students began learning how to use the traditional multiplication algorithm to solve larger multiplication questions. This is an important Grade 5 skill that helps students work efficiently and accurately when multiplying multi-digit numbers. Students learned how to stack the numbers correctly (lining up place values), and we practiced the step-by-step process needed to work through each part of the algorithm. As students solved problems, they focused on careful organization, showing their work clearly, and checking that their steps made sense. We are still in the early stages of this learning, and we will continue practicing next week to build confidence, accurac...

Feb 2-6 Learning Outcomes Students analyze and apply strategies and tactics that support improved decision making in physical activities. Students demonstrate and adapt various movement patterns to enhance skill development. Students reflect and relate life experiences to perseverance and well-being. What Did  Students Do? This Week in Grade 5: A Fantastic First Day at WinSport This week, our class headed to WinSport for our first day of skiing and snowboarding , and it was such a great experience for everyone! Students met their instructors, gathered their gear, and headed out onto the hill ready to learn and challenge themselves. Throughout the day, students practiced key skills and strategies that supported safe decision making on the hill, such as choosing appropriate routes, controlling speed, and following instructor guidance. Even on the first day, there was noticeable growth in confidence and ability. We had several first-time skiers and snowboarders , and by the end of...
