Learning Outcomes

Communicate a clear position supported by relevant evidence.

What Did Students Do?

Students continued their work with opinion writing, learning how strong writers not only share what they think, but clearly explain why using meaningful support.

Each student selected a topic they care about and spent time brainstorming ideas, generating both general reasons and specific, personal evidence. Using a graphic organizer, they planned their writing by identifying:

  • A clear position

  • Strong reasons

  • Specific examples and personal connections

  • Evidence that supports their thinking

As they drafted, students also practiced using transition words to make their writing flow smoothly and connect their ideas. Throughout the week, they reflected on our class criteria and worked toward meeting each part with clarity and confidence.

It was an exciting week of thoughtful planning, strong opinions, and growing independence as writers
